48 pagesJohn G. Burchill was born on September 23, 1918 in Newcastle/Miramichi, New Brunswick. He attended Harkins Academy and Rothesay Collegiate School from 1933 to 1937. John returned to school in the fall to enter in Forestry at UNB in 1937, and graduated in 1941. John, also, joined the RCAF, during the war, and became a pilot, and eventually flew with 412 Spitfire Squadron.
In 1942, John married Elizabeth Jean McDonald, the mother of his five children: Peter, Derek, Susan, John and Barbara. After the war John joined the family firm, Geo Burchill and Sons. In 1960, John became President of Geo Burchill and Sons Plywood Ltd... Four years later, he became the director of NB Telephone Company and in 1972 became New Brunswick representative on the board of the Bank of Canada. He has been retired since 1979.
